Katlego hails from Lesetlheng, a small village near Pilanesberg. Growing up with severe asthma in this dusty village meant that participating in any Sporting activities always ended up with a visit to the hospital. Sports fields were open grounds with a few stones around to mark them for size. All of this changed when she discovered mountains and she set her goals to conquer the highest peaks in all the seven continents of the world. She holds a Masters from Columbia University in New York and has financed all her expeditions thus far. Over the past few years, she has explored mountains in East Africa, the Andes, the Caucasus and the Himalayas.
Her first attempt of Mt Everest was cut short by the 8.1 Richter Scale earthquake that devastated the Himalayas on April 25th, 2015. For most people, Mt Everest is a once in a lifetime experience because of the costs and time invested. The 2014 and 2015 seasons were cancelled due to natural disasters. Many groups have been working directly with the local community and other organizations in the aftermath, to help help ensure the needs of all Sherpas are met in the future. Katlego is planning her second attempt of Mt Everest for 2017 and is currently fundraising for this expedition.
